Westmoreland Football League Warning

Westmoreland Football League Warning

Westmoreland FL Warning

To all Clubs,

It has come to our attention that unacceptable levels of touchline misbehaviour have been reported across multiple matches this season. The Westmorland League is committed to maintaining respect, sportsmanship, and a positive environment at all league events. Instances of misconduct on the touchline not only harm the reputation of individual clubs but also jeopardise the standing of the league as a whole.

We are pleased to note that the behaviour of players has generally improved this season, reflecting positively on the efforts made by clubs to instil discipline and sportsmanship among their teams. However, the behaviour of some club officials and supporters remains an area of significant concern. Clubs are reminded that they bear full responsibility for the conduct of their members, including officials, supporters, and affiliates, during matches. Misconduct that brings the league into disrepute will be met with disciplinary action, including fines of up to £150.

The Executive Committee conducts observations at matches—both overtly and covertly—to identify and report any breaches of conduct. Referees are also required to report any instances of misbehaviour, whether from supporters or club officials.

In addition to fines, the league reserves the right to request that club representatives attend a formal meeting to address these issues directly. If deemed necessary, we may also withhold future fixtures until appropriate steps have been taken to prevent further incidents.

We expect that all clubs will treat this matter with the seriousness it warrants and take prompt, effective action to uphold the league’s standards. Misconduct on the touchline—whether by club officials or supporters—will be monitored closely throughout the season, and all reports of unacceptable behaviour will be addressed swiftly and decisively.

Yours sincerely,

General Secreta
